A Fresh Start, In Every Way

Neighbor began with a simple truth: pets are family. When our co-founders, Paul and Mary couldn’t find a pet food that supported their dog Charlie’s health, they started cooking real food at home. The results were life-changing for Charlie, and the foundation of Neighbor was born.

But we didn’t just want to create a better product. We wanted to build a better business. One where local ingredients matter. Where employees are owners. Where every decision considers the health of the entire family, including the emotional well-being of both pets and people.

What It Means to Be a Neighbor

We’re proudly employee-owned and Pacific Northwest-made. That means our team, not some boardroom, is responsible for your dog’s food. And because we only sell through independent pet stores and on our own website, your dollars stay in the community too.

Being a neighbor means showing up for each other. It means doing things the right way, even if it’s not the easiest. That’s why we:

  • Cook every recipe weekly in our own kitchen in Portland
  • Use locally sourced, human-grade ingredients
  • No fillers, by-products, and anything artificial
  • Deliver fresh to retailers and homes across Oregon and Washington
  • Hire local, pay fair wages, and build relationships beyond transactions

The Power of Pets—and Real Food

We believe dogs thrive on real food; not shelf-stable formulas designed for convenience. And when pets feel better, the whole household benefits.

But more than that, we believe pet food can be a vehicle for something bigger: stronger communities, more open conversations around emotional wellness, and a business culture that values kindness and connection.

Fresh Food for Pets. A Fresh Perspective on Mental Health.

Mental health is personal to us. For many of us, our dogs are the steady heartbeat through tough times, offering comfort, structure, and love when nothing else makes sense.

That’s why we show up for our neighbors the way our dogs show up for us.

  • We partner with nonprofits that support families and animals in crisis.
  • We give back through donations, and volunteerism
  • We use our platform to normalize conversations around mental health and emotional wellness.

Whether it’s sponsoring a grief camp for kids or dropping off food to someone who just lost their pet, we lead with care, not commerce.
