Keep Your Pets Happy, Safe, and Healthy This Independence Day
From your Neighbors at Neighbor Pet Food
The 4th of July is a time for fireworks, BBQs, and all-around good vibes, but for our pets, it can be a bit overwhelming. Between the loud booms, flashing lights, and busy gatherings, it’s no wonder so many pups (and kitties!) would rather skip the festivities altogether.
At Neighbor Pet Food, we want to help make sure your pets have a safe, stress-free, and meatball-filledholiday. Here are some simple tips to help your furry family members enjoy their Independence Day:
🧨 Create a Safe Space
Set up a cozy, quiet spot inside where your pet can retreat if the fireworks get a little too flashy. Close the windows and curtains, and consider playing calming music or white noise to help muffle the sounds.
🦴 Enrichment = Distraction
A great way to keep your dog’s mind off the commotion? Enrichment toys stuffed with our fresh Neighbor meatballs. Fill a West Paw, Kong or another stuffable toy with our fresh, locally-made meatballs and freeze it for extra staying power. It’s a delicious distraction that keeps your pup engaged while you enjoy the festivities.
🔥 BBQ Etiquette for Pets
While your dog might argue that they should be in charge of quality control at the grill, resist those puppy eyes. Avoid sharing fatty meats, cooked bones, or anything seasoned heavily, they can upset your pet’s tummy or cause health issues.
🎆 Skip the Sparklers
Leave the fireworks to the pros. Backyard pyrotechnics are a common cause of pet injuries and stress. Instead, celebrate with safer alternatives like glow sticks (supervised, of course) or patriotic bandanas that your pet can rock during the party.
🐾 Keep ID Tags Up to Date
Unfortunately, the 4th of July is the #1 day for pets to go missing. Make sure your pet’s tags and microchip info are current, just in case they get spooked and bolt.
🍖 Bonus Tip: The “Meatball Moment”
Before the fireworks start, have a little ritual: serve up a meatball or two as a special holiday treat. Think of it as your dog’s version of sparklers… festive, fun, and totally safe.
